Cloodle FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Cloodle, the daily semantic word puzzle. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Visit the contact page.

What is Cloodle?

Cloodle is a free daily word puzzle where you guess a hidden word from meaning-based (semantic) clues. A new puzzle is published every day, and the difficulty increases through the week.

Is Cloodle like Wordle?

Both are daily word-guessing games, but the core mechanic is different. Wordle gives you letter-position feedback (green, yellow, grey tiles). Cloodle focuses on semantic clues — words related to the answer by meaning — and may confirm that certain letters exist, but it never reveals letter positions. You're thinking about concepts rather than letter patterns.

What are semantic clues?

Semantic clues are words or short phrases that relate to the hidden answer through meaning, association, or context — not through shared letters. For example, clues for 'ocean' might include 'vast', 'waves', 'deep', and 'salt'.

Why does Cloodle get harder through the week?

Cloodle's difficulty increases from Monday to Sunday primarily because the answer words get longer through the week. The number of semantic clues stays the same (five), and the challenge ramps up via word length rather than vaguer clues.

Is Cloodle free to play?

Yes. Cloodle is completely free. There are no ads, no premium tiers, and no account required. Just open cloodle.app in your browser and play.

Can I play Cloodle on my phone?

Yes. Cloodle works in any modern web browser on phones, tablets, and computers. There's no app to download — just visit cloodle.app. The interface is designed to work well on mobile screens.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Cloodle doesn't require an account or sign-up. Your game progress, streak, and statistics are stored locally in your browser.

How are the daily words chosen?

Each day's word is selected from a curated list. Words are chosen to be fair, recognisable, and interesting. The clue sets are carefully crafted to be challenging but solvable.

Can I suggest a word for Cloodle?

We'd love to hear your suggestions! Visit the contact page to share word ideas or other feedback.

Do you have a puzzle archive?

There isn’t a dedicated archive list page yet, but you can play past puzzles using the date controls on the Play page. You can also open a specific puzzle directly with a date parameter (for example: /play?date=YYYY-MM-DD).

What if my guess isn't accepted?

Cloodle checks guesses against a dictionary. If your word isn't recognised, or if it's the wrong length, the game will ask you to try again without using up a guess.

How do I share my results?

After completing a puzzle, you'll see a share option that generates a spoiler-free result card. You can copy it to your clipboard and paste it into messages, social media, or anywhere you like.

Is Cloodle accessible?

We're working to improve accessibility. The game currently works with keyboard input and aims for good colour contrast. Screen reader support and additional accessibility features are on the roadmap.

Does Cloodle track my data?

Cloodle uses privacy-friendly analytics (Plausible) to understand how the site is used in aggregate. No personal data is collected, and your game state is stored locally in your browser. See the privacy policy for details.

When does the daily puzzle reset?

A new Cloodle puzzle is available every day. The week resets on Monday with the easiest puzzle.

I found a bug. How do I report it?

Please visit the contact page and describe what happened. Include your device and browser if possible — it helps us fix things faster.
