About Cloodle

Cloodle is a free, daily word puzzle that challenges you to guess a hidden word using semantic clues — hints based on meaning and association. Cloodle may also confirm that certain letters exist in the answer, but it does not reveal letter positions. It’s designed for anyone who loves language, enjoys a daily mental workout, and wants something a bit different from the usual word game format.

Why Cloodle Exists

The daily word game space exploded after Wordle proved that millions of people enjoy a quick, once-a-day puzzle. But nearly every game that followed used the same core mechanic: guess a word, get feedback on which letters are right.

Cloodle was born from a simple question: what if the clues were about meaning instead of letters? Instead of narrowing down possibilities through positional feedback, Cloodle keeps the focus on meaning: word associations, categories, and concepts. It’s a puzzle that rewards vocabulary breadth and lateral thinking.

The goal was to create a word game that feels genuinely fresh — one where you’re reasoning about what a word meansrather than how it’s spelled.

What Are Semantic Word Puzzles?

A semantic word puzzle is any puzzle where the clues relate to the answer through meaning, context, or association. In Cloodle, each puzzle presents a set of words that are conceptually connected to the hidden answer. Your job is to recognise the common thread and identify the target word.

This approach draws on ideas from computational linguistics and word embeddings — the same technology that powers modern search engines and language models. Cloodle translates that into a playable, human-scale challenge. For a detailed explanation of how the clues work, see What is Cloodle?

Built for the Web

Cloodle is a web application that runs in any modern browser. There is no native app to download — simply visit cloodle.app on your phone, tablet, or computer. The game is free to play, requires no sign-up, and stores your progress locally in your browser.

Roadmap

Cloodle is actively developed. Here are some things being explored for the future:

  • Puzzle archive — replay past Cloodle puzzles you may have missed
  • Accessibility improvements — screen reader support, high-contrast mode, keyboard navigation
  • Expanded word pool — more curated words and higher-quality clue sets
  • Multiplayer / competitive mode — race against friends in real time
  • Community features — leaderboards, word suggestions, and player feedback

These are intentions, not promises — priorities may shift based on player feedback and what makes the game better.
